2003-03-05 - 3:01 a.m. My band, Hidden Driveways, the best rock band of my life, got written up in this week's Village Voice. A-hem: HIDDEN DRIVEWAYS Mixing fuzz-toned-to-the-max guitars with sometimes sweet pop vocals, trio Hidden Driveways throw in a few other genres, drop in a few tabs (acid, maybe?) and come up with a familiar yet new sound. The result is a Lena Lovich-the Sparks and Weezer-type jam the works best when drummer Kristin Mueller's voice backs up frontman Sam Mallery. Now, this is a very positive review, and I am very excited about it, BUT, there is one point I would like to address. I AM NOT ON DRUGS. I have been accused of being stoned on drugs for nearly my entire life. When I was a young grade school toddler, I was once pulled aside by a teacher and scolded for being on drugs at school. I HAD PINK EYE. Often, when I meet people for the first time, I'll say something along the lines of "Hello, how are you doing?" and all too often the new person will point at me and say in a froggy voice, "Heeeeey, maaaan, how are YOU doing?" Now, the Voice of the Village has cried out, for all to hear, that myself and my bandmates are on acid. While I take it as a complement, I must assure you, that I, Sam Mallery, am pretty much not on drugs.
