2003-06-10 - 1:47 a.m. Once in a great while a dog name will come to me in a flash and I will suddenly long to obtain a pooch and indoctrinate it with its new moniker. It's well known that naming a dog is a tricky feat. Dogs generally react better to short, punchy, vowel based names. For example- a Terrier called Ozgood is much better off than a Chow called Elizabeth. Tootie, Mootap, Punchbug, Futon, Botox, these are the names that rule doggieland. Yesterday, I imagined for the first time, me and my trusty Golden Retriever, Fjord, walking along the banks of a thriving woodsy creek. Fjord’s jowls were smiling and glistening dripilly. He would thrash in the straw reeds, playfully trying to snare the tennis ball I had thrown.
